Local Museum Rüschlikon

The Farmhouse of Jakob and Lina Abegg-Wunderli

This is the impressive winegrower’s house of Jakob and Lina AbeggWunderli. This stately building offers a vivid impression of everyday life in Rüschlikon in earlier times.

As the couple had no children, they bequeathed their residence to the municipality of Rüschlikon in 1975, together with the barn across the street on Nidelbadstrasse (on the present-day site of the Abegg Huus). Jakob Abegg set two clear conditions for this legacy: part of the property was to be used for housing for senior citizens, and his home was to be preserved permanently as a local museum open to the public.

To implement these wishes, the Abegg Huus Foundation was established in 1975. Just three years later, in 1978, the first Abegg Huus, with 40 rooms, was opened, offering older people a new place to live. In 2018, a new building followed, including the public bistro “Jacobs.” The Local Museum Rüschlikon was opened on 31 May 1980.
